NOMIS. What was once a brotherhood dream is now a reality (and not without a few Major challenges along the way). It all started in the year 2000 when Chamberlain boys Simon, Andre and Mat decided to develop a brand that would connect their crew with the board culture they loved so much. Snowboarding and skateboarding were regular pastimes, and pursuing a dream in the industry that reflected their passion only made sense. The first step, finding a name for their brand, came easily. Often the boys would nickname each other with their names spelled backwards. Simon’s always sounded the best, so NOMIS was the ideal choice. And it was only fitting, because Simon was rapidly progressing in his career as a professional snowboarder. The brothers, then living in Whistler, found themselves at the hub of the snowboard world, now connected with an even greater group of individuals that shared the snowboard/skateboard lifestyle. Interest started to grow in Japan and the U.S. Now this little venture, started in tiny Lindsay, Ontario, looked like it was outgrowing its humble beginnings. This is when eldest brother Mat Chamberlain, began to draft business plans and gather a crew of people to help take NOMIS to the next level. Mat managed to find an
investor that was equally excited about the prospects of Nomis, and so began the chapter of an ever changing, challenging, and exciting journey to make NOMIS the brand it is today. NOMIS started with logo T-shirts and Hoodies, and other street wear staples like hats, jeans, and jackets soon followed as demand surged. It didn’t take long before NOMIS was backlogged with requests.
